Membership

Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the New England Dermatological Society

To apply for membership, the following items are required:

  1. Completion of the NEDS application. This can be done online (preferred) or by submitting a paper application*EDUCATIONAL FIELDS MUST BE COMPLETED (e.g., undergrad through post grad and including medical/nursing school, residency, internship, fellowship and specialty area) even if this information is already included in your CV.
  2. A current CV is required for ALL levels of membership. Attach this your online application where indicated OR forward to NEDS@mms.org

  3. Physician Residents and Fellows who apply within one year of graduation for physician or associate level membership:
  • Are not required to pay an application fee. If approved for membership, the first year of membership (through Sep 30) is offered at no charge (dues apply starting in year 2) 
  1. A Letter of Recommendation for Physician and Associate Level Applicants is NOT required
  2. A Letter of Recommendation for Affiliate and Adjunct Level Applicants IS required.   3. For ALL application levels, enter the name of the dermatologist who recommended that you apply for membership (an application form field)

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

  1. Payment of the $225 Membership application fee is required for AFFILIATE and ADJUNCT LEVEL applicants.
  2. A rebate of 50% of this fee is refunded to approved applicants at the ASSOCIATE, AFFILIATE AND ADJUNCT levels who apply for membership within one year of graduation.
  3. Applicants must be a New-England-based healthcare practitioner falling into one of the membership categories listed in the table below.

Residents and Fellows: Residents and Fellows enrolled in New England-based dermatology training programs do NOT need to formally apply for NEDS membership until they complete their derm training. To attend NEDS meetings, register using the 'resident' or 'fellow' registration category and include your training program name in the organization field. For those remaining in New England post training, NEDS offers a 50% discount (rebate) on first year membership dues for approved applicants who apply within one year of completing their residency or fellowship training. The $ 225 application fee will transfer over to membership dues upon application approval, and must be paid in full as part of the application process.

Referral Rebate: The Society offers a $50 rebate on membership dues to any member who refers a new member to the Society.

Membership Categories

 Member      Physician who is board-certified* by the American Board of Dermatology (*waived for applications  submitted within the first year post graduation; board-eligible status is acceptable in these instances)
 Associate Physician who has completed 3 years of training in dermatology but not board certified
 Affiliate   Non-dermatologists with dermatology-related specialty (i.e. researcher, pathology-trained dermatopathologist)
 Adjunct    Nurse practitioners and physician assistants who work under the supervision of an Active NEDS Member

 Next steps

Your application will be reviewed at the next scheduled Council meeting when all required information is received. Applicants are notified if their membership has been approved or if there are additional items required for approval.
